To ensure that all the content within your cells is properly visible without manually resizing each column or row, you can automatically adjust their width and height. This process helps optimize the display, saving time and making the data more accessible. You can quickly resize all cells in the sheet, making sure no text is hidden or cut off, by following a simple method.
Begin by selecting the entire grid of your document. After selecting the range, you can apply a quick adjustment that will resize both rows and columns to match the content. This method works for multiple cells at once, which is ideal for large spreadsheets with varying amounts of data in each row or column.
Instead of resizing each row or column individually, use built-in features that allow you to make these adjustments in a few steps. These shortcuts and tools make managing large data sets easier, ensuring that everything fits perfectly without the need for manual intervention.
Resizing Columns and Rows Automatically

Select the entire range of your document by clicking the box in the top-left corner, where the row and column headings meet. Once all cells are highlighted, you can automatically adjust their size to fit the content. This method works for both vertical and horizontal adjustments.
To apply this feature, navigate to the “Home” tab and find the “Format” button under the “Cells” section. From the dropdown menu, select the option for resizing. By choosing “Auto Resize Columns” and “Auto Resize Rows,” the program will instantly adjust the dimensions to match the text and numbers within each cell.
For faster resizing, you can also double-click the boundary line between any column or row heading. This will resize the selected column or row to fit its content. Using this approach on multiple rows or columns ensures that your entire grid is resized with minimal effort.
How to Resize All Columns with One Click
To adjust the width of all columns to match their content, begin by selecting the entire range of your document. Click the box in the top-left corner where the row and column labels intersect to highlight all cells.
Once all cells are selected, go to the “Home” tab and click the “Format” button in the “Cells” group. In the dropdown menu, choose “Auto Resize Columns.” This will instantly adjust the width of every column based on the longest content within each one.
If you prefer a quicker method, you can double-click on the boundary between any two column headings. This action will automatically resize the selected column to fit its content. For resizing multiple columns, simply select them and double-click one of the selected boundaries.
Adjusting Row Height Automatically
To automatically adjust row height based on the content, select all cells by clicking the square between the row and column labels. This will highlight the entire sheet.
Next, navigate to the “Home” tab and click on “Format” in the “Cells” section. From the dropdown menu, choose the option “Auto Resize Row Height.” This will adjust each row’s height to fit the tallest content within it.
Alternatively, you can double-click the boundary between any two row labels. This action will automatically resize the row to fit the largest piece of text or number inside. For multiple rows, select the desired range and double-click one of the row boundaries to adjust them all at once.
Using Keyboard Shortcuts for Auto Resizing in Excel
